To use WARC

The World Advertising Research Center database contains journals, news, case studies, forecasts and data on advertising and marketing. In addition it contains conference reports, advertising agency and major client company profiles, consumer profiles, guides to marketing and advertising topics, video clips and much more.

The wide range of this database is best appreciated by spending some time using the easy browsing facilities within it. Many "instant" collections of materials are available if you click on all the links on the homepage. Search facilities are available.

An e-mail alerting service providing regular news bulletins is available from the "Your WARC" link on the homepage.

Journals include Admap, Journal of advertising research, International journal of advertising, International journal of market research etc.. For a full list click on the Advanced Search at the top right of the screen and in the search screen and scroll down to find the "Select Sources" facility. Using this enables you to search through the contents of one journal only. The powerpoint linked below illustrates this facility.

Case studies come from a wide range of agencies and printed sources. The powerpoint linked below points out some of the salient features of the search facility.

Data comes from a wide variety of sources including WARC's own Advertising statistics yearbook.

To connect on or off-campus

The on and off campus URL are the same for this database. If on campus click on:

http://www.warc.com/intranet/autologin.asp

For off campus users this database uses Athens authentication. Log on first by clicking on the Athens login button at the bottom of the Brookes Library homepage:

http://www.brookes.ac.uk/library

Enter your Oxford Brookes Username and Password.

For the next 8 hours you will remain logged in to Athens so long as you do not close your browser. Click on the off campus URL for the database you require and you will automatically be connected.

As stated above WARC has easy browsing facilities and it is best to go into the database to explore it for yourself. The powerpoint linked below gives some screenshots that point out a few useful extra features. Off campus users will have to enter their Brookes portal username and password to enter the intranet::
