BAAL The web site for the British Association for Applied Linguistics, which provides a forum for people interested in language and the applications of linguistics.
BALEAP The web site for the British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes, whose role is "to develop the English language provision for international students in institutions of higher education in the UK and to promote and support the professional development and status of staff in these institutions".
BBC languages site has resources on learning English as a foreign language through its World Service Pages.
BNC The British National Corpus is a 100 million word collection of samples of written and spoken language from a wide range of sources, designed to represent a wide cross-section of current British English, both spoken and written. The website contains lots of background information about the BNC, and also links to pages from which you can try out or subscribe to the BNC Online Service.
CILT: Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research is the UK's national centre of expertise on language teaching.
The ESLoop is a collection of sites relevant to English Language Teaching and Learning on the Web.
ESSE: Web site for The European Society for the Study of English which aims to promote the understanding and study of the English language throught Europe.

IC staff at Oxford Brookes University have set up an Online Self Access System hosted by English Study Direct. This provides a wide collection of ESL/EFL/ELT web resources for practice and reference suitable for students, teachers and researchers of English as a second or other language.
IATEFL Web site for the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language which works towards linking, developing and supporting ELT professionals worldwide.

JALT is a Japanese TESOL organisation.
KOTESOL web site of The Korea Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages.
Linguanet aims to provide access to quality-assured information and materials for language teachers and learners. Its web site includes links to many online English language resources.
The Listening Business provides listening materials for teachers of EFL/ESL. Sample materials are available from their web site.
Longman publishers have a site for English Language teachers which includes a Resource Library providing downloadable worksheets, activities and lesson plans as well as online activities and teaching tips. The site also has a link to Longman's English Language Teachers' Forum, which focuses on a specific ELT issue each month and provides further downloadable resource packs, as well as a message board, bibliographies and interactive activites. Much of the material is available to anyone, but for Development Packs, and to be able to participate in online discussions, you would need to subscribe.
One Stop English is maintained by Macmillan publishers. You have to register in order to access the range of free resources which include worksheets, online games, Web-based activities, a magazine and a sections for professional support.
OUP Teachers Club is a site hosted by Oxford University Press aimed at English Language teachers. The site gives access to downloadable books and articles. Users need to join the club to access these materials, but membership is free.
The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is available online from Brookes networked computers. It is free to Brookes staff and students only.
Teaching English is a site produced by the BBC and British Council, providing free access to downloadable materials, plus a weekly newsletter.
