Digimap information and registration

Digimap - what it is

Digimap is an online service which provides access to digital maps and data, from the Ordnance Survey, for England, Wales and Scotland.

Digimap comprises the following collections:

  • Digimap - Ordnance Survey Collection Uses current contemporary Ordnance Survey maps and data to create both simple and customised maps for viewing and printing. Can be downloaded for use within GIS and CAD applications.
  • Historic Digimap Offers the facility to view images of historic Ordnance Survey maps dating from 1843 to 1996; 2 maps of the same location but different dates can be viewed simultaneously. Maps can be printed and image data downloaded for use in GIS and image processing software.
  • Geology Digimap Offers the facility to view, print and download contemporary British Geological Survey map data.
  • Marine Digimap Offers the facility to view, print and download marine and coastal mapping data.

Registration

All Oxford Brookes staff and students are entitled to use the service, free of charge, for academic purposes. It is necessary to register for the main service (Digimap Ordnance Survey Collection), Geology and Marine Digimap. Historic Digimap requires no registration.

Step-by-step instructions are provided in the guide: Registering for Digimap Word or PDF

Using Digimap at home

Your registration allows you to access all Digimap services from your home PC within Great Britain, providing you delete any data once your course/project has finished. Digimap is designed to be used over a university network, so services may be slower, and cannot be guaranteed when accessing via a modem.

Java plug-in: In order to use Digimap Carto (advanced service within Digimap - Ordnance Survey Collection) at home, you will need to install the Java plug-in software, which is available on the Digimap Carto login screen.

Please note: the terms and conditions do not under any circumstances allow you to access Digimap from a workplace computer, unless your workplace also subscribes to Digimap. Please see Digimap Copyright terms and conditions for more information.
