Legal databases - Looking for a case or piece of legislation? Want to see if there are any journal articles and newspapers related to your law topic? Have a look at these legal databases.

  • Casetrack - Judgments from the High Court, Court of Appeal and Employment Appeal Tribunal; selected judgments from the European Court of Human Rights and the European Court of Justice. Password required.
  • Lawtel - U.K. cases, legislation, journal articles, command papers and parliamentary bills. It also includes a human rights section from the European Court of Human Rights.
  • LexisLibrary - law reports, legislation, legal journals and key legal commentaries such as Halsbury's Laws of England.
  • Practical Law Company (PLC) - Legal know-how articles, practice notes, drafting notes, transactional analysis and market intelligence for business lawyers.
  • Westlaw - U.K. case law and legislation, E.U. case law and legislation, the Legal Journals Index (covering English language legal journals published in the U.K. and Europe), and legal journals and commentaries.

Other useful databases - Want to explore your topic further? There are several multi-disciplinary databases, which include some legal topics.

  • Academic Search Complete - a multi-disciplinary database which includes legal journals.
  • ASSIA - Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts, includes social and family law.
  • Factiva - International news database. Includes leading national newspapers, local newspapers, trade and professional journals and the BBC Monitoring Service transcripts of world radio broadcasts.
  • Sociological Abstracts - covers a broad range of subjects including some aspects of law.
  • Web of Science - contains the Social Sciences Citation Index which provides bibliographic information and abstracts from a range of key law journals.
  • ZETOC - British Library's electronic table of contents. Covers about 20,000 current journals and conference proceedings in publishing, science, technology, business, law, finance and the humanities.

E-journals - Have a specific journal article or journal title to hand?

This subject list of journals may be of interest to Law students and staff. These journals are only a selection of our full-text e-journals; see our information on e-journals for details, including an A-Z list of all our electronic titles. Note that most e-journals require confidential passwords particularly if you are off-campus.

The Library also subscribes to many other journals in Law in printed format. The Library Catalogue provides details of all the journals which the Library subscribes to in both print and electronic format. Enter the journal title into the keyword or title search box and select Electronic & Printed Journals Catalogue.
