Internet sites for Mathematical Sciences and Statistics
There is much information available for free on the Internet. However, the majority of material is not refereed, so it is important to make sure that you are using a reliable source - see our guide to evaluating web sources for more information.
As well as searching the free online information, it's also worth remembering that Brookes Library subscribes to many electronic resources which Brookes staff and students can access at home. These include several subject-specific electronic databases and an increasing number of electronic journals .
Free electronic resources
- Intute: Science, Engineering and Technology - a subject gateway to quality internet resources which are likely to be useful to students and academics in these subject areas. A good starting point for online maths resources.
- TechXtra - in Engineering, Mathematics and Computing. A free service which cross searches books, journals, eprints, news and technical reports in engineering, maths and computing. Not all materials referenced are freely available, so you'll need to check the Library Catalogue, to see whether Brookes Library holds some of the journals/books mentioned.
- Electronic Library of Mathematics - free online books, journals and conference proceedings, hosted by the European Mathematical Society
- Internet Mathematician - a tutorial to help you improve your internet searching skills, and explore some of the key maths site on the Web
- Mathematics Forum
- Maths, Stats & OR Network - supporting learning and teaching.
- Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM)
- National Statistics online official UK statistics site, includes access to a range of statistics.
- Miscellaneous Mathematical Utilities - several useful utilities written in Javascript.
- scirus and scitopia are science-specific search engines.
