Internet sites for Music

There are a large number of music resources available on the Internet, and a few selected sites are listed below. Access to a few of these sites is via subscription, paid for by the Library, and for off campus access to these services, you will need to log into Athens.

General music gateways

Intute: arts & humanities - music - provides links to music resources selected for university staff and students.
The Golden Pages - a large collection of links useful for music history.

Encyclopaedias

Oxford music online - contains the online version of the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (for off campus access, click on the 'Eduserv Athens login' link when you get to Oxford music online). .
Continuum Encyclopedia of Popular Music of the World online version - for off campus access, you will need to log into Athens first.

Listening services and other resources

Naxos Music Library - a classical music listening service
JISC MediaHub - this service includes the Culverhouse Classical Music Collection - over 50 hours of copyright-free classical music, with some associated scores.
British Library Sounds - Recordings available for listening and downloading. Classical music includes Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Haydn and Mozart. The world and traditional music section is particularly strong on African and Asian music but also includes English folk music. The spoken word collection includes interviews with musicians; other resources include soundscapes and the history of recorded sound.
IMSLP / Petrucci Music Library - a large virtual library of music scores which are in the public domain
(some of the scores are not available in the UK).
