Special Collections Reading Room

The following collections are housed in the Reading Room at the Headington Library.

Access to the Reading Room

Before your first visit to the Special Collections Reading Room please complete a Reading Room Registration Form (available in Word or PDF format). The form is also available from the Headington Library Enquiry Desk.

Applicants are bound by the Library Regulations and specific regulations relating to the use of Special Collections at Oxford Brookes University Library.

At the time of application:

  • Members of Oxford Brookes University must show their University ID / Library Card. Undergraduate and taught postgraduate applicants must have their form endorsed by a member of academic staff.
  • Members of the Institute and Guild of Brewing must show or send proof of their IGB membership.
  • Other users must show or send proof of their address.

Note: Access to Oxford Brookes University Library is controlled by a secure access system.
Additional to the above, visitors to the University must show some means of personal identification plus proof of their address, in order to obtain a day pass for entry into the University Library.

Library Catalogue PCs are available in the Reading Room. Brookes students and staff can also use a pooled room PC and connect their registered laptops to the WanderNet service.

Reading Room opening hours

Semester hours (from 22 September 2008):

  • Monday to Friday 13.00 - 17.00
    Walk-in access is available to holders of a Special Collections Reading Room pass.
  • Monday to Friday 09.00 - 13.00
    Access : by prior appointment only to holders of a Reading Room pass. Please email us at libraryenquiries@brookes.ac.uk to arrange your visit. Please state which collection(s) you are particularly interested in using.

Vacation hours now apply and are as follows:
