I've been at Brookes since 1999 supporting staff in their use of learning technologies to enhance the student learning experience. My National Teaching Fellowship is about sustaining communities of staff elearning practitioners. Before coming to Brookes I taught language and linguistics at the Universities of Bologna, Trieste, Krakow, Ljubljana and East Anglia and trained English teachers with the British Council, the Bell Institute and other teacher training organisations.

I joined the Media Workshop in March 2008 as an E-Learning Advisor but I've been working at Brookes since 1999, latterly as a Learning Resources Technologist in the Business School. I am interested in all forms of media and how they can be used and developed for reusable learning objects, online resources and blended learning needs.
Chess Black
Learning Technologist

I joined the Media Workshop as a Learning Technologist in 2000, through my interest in web based technologies and education. Originally I trained as an art teacher, and after years as a scene painter and graphic artist, a Mac arrived in the art department and my interest in computers began. I now work part-time, giving me time to pursue other artistic interests.

For the last few years I've been working on a major university project to improve the management of research and teaching materials, called the RADAR project. The system, based on Equella software, integrates fully with the university's Virtual Learning Environment (Blackboard CE8). For more information, please see the videos and guides about using RADAR.
I'm interested in developing facilities for podcasting within the university, and have worked with the Business School on a recent podcast project. I'm also a fellow of the ASKe CETL project and have worked on the development of social learning spaces.

Graphics and photographic support for teaching is my bit of the business. I've been at Brookes since 1986 but I don't reckon I'm a total dinosaur, I'm happy on a Mac or a PC, know more about production for print than for the web and enjoy design and illustration (anything from icons for web pages through cartoons to more complex technical figures).

I can't claim to have been at Brookes forever, but 1990 does seem like a long time ago. I have photographic skills but my main area of support has been designing print-based materials for teaching, learning and administration, dare I say it, on a Mac. In the last few months I've started to develop my web design skills and hope to do more in the future.

I originally trained in Media Production, but have recently finished a Graphic Design course, on which I produced both graphic design and web design work. I have just moved to Oxfordshire from Warwickshire - not a very big move but one that has proved to be successful! My last job (in a photo processing company) involved producing prints for various newspapers in the position of printing / apple mac technician.
