Respondus
Respondus is a Windows application that enhances the functionality and usability of the VLE's quizzes, surveys, and self-test tools.
First time users download and install Respondus here.
Renewing your existing Respondus licence: your Respondus licence must be renewed annually on 1st August - click here.
It is best to update your version of Respondus beforehand. From the toolbar in Respondus, click Help > Check for Update. Respondus will then automatically update.
Wimba Create (ex courseGenie)
Oxford Brookes has purchased a campus-wide license for Wimba Create. With CourseGenie you can author online course materials in Microsoft Word and then export them in plain html, VLE (CE8) or IMS formats. Macromedia Dreamweaver
Highly recommended bespoke web authoring tool, excellent for creating web pages. Training available through Computer Services.
Camtasia
Camtasia Studio enables you to capture and record screen activity; excellent for demonstrations and tutorials. Enhance your recordings with narration and powerful special effects - including annotation, zooming, automatic panning and cursor highlighting. Camtasia is available for use in the Graphics Workshop.
Adobe Acrobat Reader (PDF)
Free software for viewing and printing Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files. To create PDF documents you will need to purchase a licence for the full Adobe Acrobat suite, available from Pugh Computers @ £30.
PDF 995
PDF 995 is a free alternative to Adobe Writer, however the conversion does not maintain hyperlinks.
TurningPoint 2008
TurningPoint is a presentation, teaching and lecturing tool that sits within Microsoft PowerPoint. It allows staff to communicate with students interactively by asking them multiple choice questions to which they can reply using a keypad handset. It collects audience responses in real time and creates detailed reports for analysis at the touch of a button.
Open Office
Open Office is free and an excellent alternative to MS Office. It also has some advantages, which include free conversion of files to PDF and excellent conversion to HTML pages - each slide loads separately - as if 'streamed'. (Read Jim's tips )
