WebCT: How to create an image database
Before creating your image database, check the Media Workshop
Content Guidelines on using
optimum file type and size.
It will save you time if you upload the images you want to use
into My-Files/content. (Media Workshop can advise)
The following guidelines assume your image files are already uploaded.
1) From the Course Facilities page click on Image Database, on
the Menu Bar, select Designer Options.
2) In the Add Image Database text box, next to title create a
name for the database, and then click Add. The new database name
appears under the Image Database heading.
3) Under the Image Database heading, click the hyperlink to the
database. The Manage Images screen appears.
4) From the drop-down list, select Add, and then click Go. The
Image Addition screen appears.
The filename field is the only mandatory field; however it is
good practice to complete the other fields.

- Description = the caption that students see when they view the image
- Creator = the person who created the image
- Title = title for the image
- Keywords = descriptive words about the image. When students search the image database, they are searching the keywords
- Filename = location of the image in your WebCT My-Files/Content folder
- Thumbnail = location of the thumbnail image in your WebCT My-Files folder
(Thumbnails are small versions of your image and are useful because they provide a preview of the image and a shorter download time. Note: if you add a .gif image, the Image Database automatically creates a thumbnail when you click Add in Step 4.)
5) Click Add. The Manage Images screen appears with a table containing the record for the first image.
To add more images to the database, repeat steps 4 and 5.
Note: You can configure the image database fields, hiding or releasing
images, changing the descriptive fields and making other modifications.
For detailed information on how to do this please click on the Help link on the WebCT template from the Image Database page.
