David has worked with a number of organisations including Prudential Property Investment Managers and The National Archive to develop ways to minimise the environmental impacts of property. He is also is a member of the international working commission on sustainable construction, CIB W-100. Before entering academia, David was a practicing architect for twelve years.

David is the co-author of the text book Sustainable Property Development and The Green Guide to Specification - an environmental profiling system for materials and components. This book is part of the BREEAM programme, the internationally recognised environmental assessment standard.
