  • The biology, evolution and conservation of mammals, particularly primates
  • Field studies in Africa, including behaviour, ecology, distribution, taxonomy, genetics and conservation status of galagos (bushbabies)
  • Rainforest and environmental degradation

Professor Bearder is one of the world’s leading authorities on nocturnal primates. He is the Coordinator of the Nocturnal Primate Research Group at Oxford Brookes which is known world wide for its expertise in this area. He recently co-edited a textbook called Primates in Perspective published by Oxford University Press.

Professor Bearder was one of the founders of the Oxford Brookes masters course in Primate Conservation, established in 2000. The course attracts animal lovers from all over the world and equips them to protect the remainder of the primate populations.
