The first ALT-SURF joint conference will explore the theme of "Connection"
focusing on the learning and teaching aspects of implementing learning
technologies in institutions and education. Keynote
speakers from the Netherlands and the UK will explore the present
and future of connecting people and technology for learning and
teaching. There are two themes that will underlie the conference
sessions:
- Connecting People
- Connecting Technology
Through the keynotes and conference workshops,
participants will explore both policies and practices that enable
people to use technology to make connections. The issue of making
connections is however not straight forward in the world of computer
mediated education through multiple Learning Technologies and the
Internet. All too often the issues of conformity to technical standards,
so necessary for systems interoperability, can have an inhibiting
influence on learning and teaching. The programme
will explore these issues from a number of perspectives:
- Staff development and training the trainers
- Learning technology standards and interoperability
- Open archives
- eLearning in the wider policy debate
- The wireless future?
- Streaming media and the remediation of broadcasting
- Assessment and computer aided assessment (CAA)
The conference aims throughout to enable learning technologists
and institutions to make new connections. All sessions will include
information about European collaborative research and development
opportunities, and a pivotal networking, matchmaking open space
will be provided where collaborations might be forged.
