More about us
The School embraces a range of disciplines that have one thing in common, a wish to create a better world.
Help build the future
Britain is in the middle of a building boom. As well as the flagship London Olympics, which will be Europe's largest construction project, over a million new homes are due to be built by 2016 and 100 hospitals by 2010. On top of this, major regeneration schemes are transforming our major cities such as Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool.
Every town, city and neighbourhood will witness huge change over the next decade - and the challenges we face are immense. The threat of global warming is bringing about a sea change in the way we plan, design and build our communities. We need to build sustainably and find new ways of dealing with the car and the waste we produce. We need to plan for our countryside as it comes under increased threat from development.

It will fall to architects, planners, construction managers, real estate experts and urban designers of tomorrow to meet those challenges. If you want to be part of it and learn how to play a real, practical and hands-on role in shaping tomorrow's world, then you'll want to opt for one of our degree courses in the School of the Built Environment.
The School embraces a range of disciplines that have one thing in common, a wish to create a better world. We have developed pioneering new courses, for example, Interior Architecture, the Business of Real Estate, Leisure and Tourism Planning, and Cities - Environment, Design and Development. These aim to meet the growing need for graduates with multidisciplinary skills. All our courses are vocational and will either give you, or lead to, accreditation by a professional body. Whatever course you opt for, you'll find it will open up a host of career opportunities and the guarantee of a job with real prospects.

The modular system
We were the first university in Britain to set up a modular system and we still lead the field. You choose what to study on a semester by semester basis, selecting from the wide range of modules on offer. It helps you to focus on what you are interested in and develop a portfolio of skills that reflects your needs and interests. You may be able to take modules in other fields, opt for or switch to part-time study, or change direction during your course.
Innovative teaching methods
We have always been at the forefront in the university sector in developing new and vocational courses to meet the needs of the real world. We deliver our courses through a varied mixture of lectures, practical workshops, seminars, group presentations and field trips.
Best new university
Brookes is one of a new generation of universities that came into being in the early 1990s and there's certainly a buzz about the place. We have been named Best New University 19 times by the British Press. All our Built Environment courses score consistently highly in the university rankings.
Our students get jobs
93% of Oxford Brookes graduates are in paid work or further study six months after graduation. Brookes has an enviable record for student employability, especially within the field of Built Environment
