The Westminster Institute’s Consultancy and Development Unit
(CANDU) leads and manages its knowledge transfer activities alongside
the Institute’s accredited CPD programme. It offers support
and advice to LEAs, schools, colleges, other educational organisations
and government bodies through a range of consultancy and research
services, which include:
- Staff development courses and materials
- Presentations, key-notes and workshops
- Policy and guidance materials
- Project and planning support
- Coaching and mentoring
- Research and evaluation projects
- Conferences, seminars, study days
We work with individual schools, groups of schools, LEAs and other
organisations to define the services which will best meet their
needs.
Expertise
The Westminster Institute of Education has key areas of research
and consultancy focus in:
- Gifted and talented education
- Inclusive and special education
- Professional learning
- Communication and language in learning
The Institute of Education also has considerable expertise across
a range of curriculum areas and age phases and in those which are
a current focus for schools and colleges, such as:
- Coaching and mentoring
- Early years development
- The use of learning technologies
- Leadership and management development
- Thinking and creativity in the curriculum
- The 14-19 curriculum
- Teaching, learning and assessment
- Peer mediation and conflict resolution
- English language training
The Institute hosts a number of major government, LEA and charitable
trust funded research and consultancy projects and recent work undertaken
by Institute staff has included:
- An evaluation of a school based enrichment programme
- The design and delivery of a national CPD programme for the
DFES for Gifted and Talented Co-ordinators
- The delivery of a pre-inspection course to a large FE college
- The preparation of a bid for Leading Edge School status
- The production of a policy and guidance document for an LEA
- The delivery of training on able pupils to Ofsted inspectors
- The development of a programme for Learning Support Assistants
- The development of materials for able young scientists and related
CPD for teachers
- The design and dissemination of training materials for the Teacher
Training Agency
