School governors are traditionally
a somewhat neglected group in discussions about provision
for gifted and talented pupils. Yet both in their roles of
‘critical friend’ and strategic directors, school
governors have responsibility for directing their school’s
approach to inclusion and access issues, including access
to a broad and balanced curriculum for each child.
If you are a school governor, you may
find it helpful to learn about the background and rationale
of the current emphasis on able, gifted and talented learners
by consulting the introduction to the Excellence
in Cities National Development Programme. In addition,
depending on your time and interest, you will find discussions
of the key issues for professional educators in the units
of professional development material
and in the various Launchpad
briefings.
