Teachers
| Increasingly teachers are
expected to differentiate for more able learners as well as
for those with special educational needs and those ‘in
the middle’. This aspect of provision has been a growing
focus of attention for the Department for Education and Skills,
Ofsted, local education authorities, and individual schools
for some time. There is also mounting interest in the initial
teacher training sector and among providers of teachers’
continuing professional development, as the need for specific
guidance in this area is recognised. |
|
If you are a classroom teacher, you will find the units of
professional development material
relating to definition and identification (Unit 1), and teaching
and learning for the able, gifted and talented (Unit 2), of
particular relevance. You may also be interested in the issues
of school management and organisation discussed in Unit 3.
You will also find the Launchpad
briefings useful,
especially those concerned with classroom provision in your
phase.
