The River Thames (1) |

| This stretch of the river Thames is known locally as the Isis, presumably, from the latin 'Thamesis'. The famous barges of the Colleges, from which spectators would have had an excellent view of the boat races, were once moored along this stretch of the river. Since the 1930s, these barges have been replaced by college boathouses.
