Email delivery issues between Brookes and Hotmail accounts
Hotmail has a filtering system intended to protect users from threats to their security, privacy and convenience. This occasionally prevents the delivery of some email from Brookes to Hotmail addresses. The reason why Hotmail is not delivering Brookes email is not understood, but we are working with Microsoft to resolve the issue. Other Microsoft live.co.uk/com addresses may be affected too.
To minimise any issues the following advice should be followed.
Current students
- Do not forward your Brookes email to your Hotmail email account.
- Use your Brookes email account or another email service if you wish to forward your email to an alternative email account.
Staff
- Do not use Hotmail addresses to correspond with current students; send email to their Brookes account.
- Consider using other communications channels if available, such as telephone or text message to make sure students know that you will be sending email to their Brookes email address if you have previously used their Hotmail account.
Applicants and Enquirers
- When communicating with Brookes, wherever possible please supply an alternative correspondence email address in addition to or instead of your Hotmail address if you have one.
- Those who have applied to the University through UCAS may refer to the UCAS web site for information on the status of their application.
- Those who have applied to the University through UKPASS should contact the Postgraduate administrator for their course to provide an alternative email address.
- If you are experiencing difficulty with email communications with Brookes, please telephone the Admissions Office on 01865 483040 (for application queries only), or the Enquiry Centre on 01865 484848 (for Prospectus and Campus Tour enquiries). Alternatively it is also possible to fax us information on the following numbers: the Admissions fax number is 01865 483983; the Enquirers fax number is 01865 484302.
Everyone
- Never divulge your email address and password in response to email requests for this information purporting to come from Brookes. Brookes will never ask you for these details by email. Criminals are increasingly sending counterfeit messages in an attempt to trick email users into disclosing this information, which allows them to use the email account for illegal purposes.
- For more information about how to stay safe on line please refer to www.GetSafeOnline.org
- Brookes and Microsoft are committed to making everyone’s online experience a safe one and we hope to have this issue resolved soon.
