halls4all. You should by now have received info about the newly launched halls4all campaign. This new opportunity to live in halls after your 1st year allows you to book as an individual or to share with a group of friends. There are many options which offer a range of styles, costs and locations, all designed to take the stress and uncertainty out of finding and booking accommodation for next year. Oxford Brookes Radio now launched. We want to make students aware of their very own radio station. Oxford Brookes radio is run soley by students for students. Our main aim is to share entertainment and information amongst students and to provide everyone at Oxford Brookes University with a platform form to make your voice heard. The station currently broadcasts from a small studio at Wheatley campus which is equipped with radio broadcasting kit supplied by the Students Union. We are an online only radio station and currently broadcast throughout the week. We host a variety of shows, broadcasting a wide range of music to cover all music tastes. Not only that, we also have chat shows and special guest speakers in on a regular basis. New version of the Library catalogue. The Library has switched to its new version of the Library Catalogue. The ‘Search catalogue’ link on the Library home page is linking directly to the new version, and searches carried out using the keyword search box on the home page are also linking directly to it. Catalogue PCs in the Library are displaying the new version as default. The old version of the Catalogue can still be accessed by clicking on the ‘Old Catalogue’ link available on the new version. People & Planet are hosting a Can Film Festival on Wednesday 8th February at 7pm at the SU Venue, as part of Go Green Week at Oxford Brookes! Just collect at least 2 empty drink cans to be recycled and bring them along to the showing to get into the film for free. Participants needed for students’ entrepreneurial competence study in West Africa. Researchers at the OBU and Burgundy Business School, France are looking for two highly entrepreneurial students to work with the researchers in the development and delivery of a workshop with a small group of students in West Africa in May/June 2011. Are you interested in Africa experience? Are you a Brookes undergraduate or postgraduate student with valuable entrepreneurial experience? Recruitment process starts with an open forum on Thursday 24th February at 12pm in W208, Wheatley Campus, (top of Simon William Building). There will also be a talk by a student: ‘Uganda: more than just internship’ – Felix Almgren. If you are interested, come for the open forum on Thursday 24th at 12pm. The survey is one of the ways in which prospective students make the important decision as to which university they will choose. The survey also helps the University to prioritise action. Ever fancied climbing the highest mountain in the UK? Brookes Alumni are teaming up with the RAG Society and Brookes Climbing Club to help raise money for charity while climbing the equivalent of Ben
Nevis – 1,344m on our Rock Solid Climbing Wall. We need as many people as possible to help us reach the summit and climb the 112 times up the wall. Thefts in the Library and leaving PCs logged on. We are experiencing lots of instances where students are leaving all their belongings around PCs, please be aware that there have been a few thefts from the Library lately so please don't just leave your belonging unattended. Also, don't leave PCs logged on preventing other students using them when you leave for a break, this is inconsiderate to other users especially at this time of year when there are a lot of course deadlines for students...created 05/12/11

Book sale at Headington Library. A sale of books no longer required by the Library is currently underway. Books for sale are located on the second floor of the Headington Library in the corridor outside the Training Room.  All books are on sale at £1 each, and anyone wishing to buy books from the room is asked to take them to the Library counter for payment.  Again, we have lots of interesting books to sell, including earlier editions of key textbooks...created 24/11/11

Digimap training - Maps Online! Digimap is an online service that allows you to view and create maps of any location in England, Scotland or Wales, using Ordnance Survey map data. Depression study. We are investigating factors contributing to depression and need 16-20 year olds who have not been depressed themselves but have at least one parent diagnosed with depression to perform psychological tasks and fMRI scanning. Healthy volunteers needed for a research study needed for a research study investigating Inflammatory Responses in adults with diabetes compared to those without diabetes. We need volunteers with type 2 diabetes and volunteers who do NOT have diabetes. The study will involve an injection followed by monitoring and blood samples over the next 6 hours. When your laptop asks you for your login details to access wireless (Eduroam) you MUST type in your whole email address for the User Name, ie 012345678@brookes.ac.uk. Looking for a PC to use on the Gipsy Lane campus but can't find one? There are over 300 PCs in the 10 computer rooms around the Gipsy Lane campus for you to use. This number does not include 139 PCs in Headington Library on various floors. Why not go to room FHG06. You can find this room next to the Brookes Restaurant, opposite the bus stop. The alternative entrance to the room is to the right of the Post Room. Or try one of the Birch House computer rooms, opposite the front of the Tonge Building. Personalise your Google email address. All students are able to use a personalised email address. The email address is generated automatically from data on the Student Administration System and is in the format of firstname.lastname-nnnn@brookes.ac.uk where 'nnnn' is the year of enrolment. By default the address is not live and has to be activated by you, before it can be used. It will only appear in the Google Contact list once it is active.
You can activate your address, by logging to PIP and clicking on the "Maintain Email Alias" link on the "My Settings" tab. Activation can take up to 24 hours. You can also de-activate your address if you no longer wish to use it. However, if that is done and mail is sent to your personalised email address, it will be returned to the sender as undeliverable mail...created

Warning - working on email attachments. If you send yourself a file (your work) as an email attachment, make sure that you save it to your home directory on the H: drive (My Documents) or a memory stick and do NOT simply click and open the file. If you do open the file and continue saving without saving to your Home Directory or memory stick, the file will by default be saved to a temporary area which will be wiped once you log off the computer. There is no way this file can be restored so please be very careful ...updated 5/01/11

Please log off the computer room PCs before you leave. You must log off the computer room PCs before you leave the room and never leave them logged on to "reserve" them. We have had cases reported of other users using "logged on" PCs to print their work. This is irresponsible behaviour by both parties, Brookes accepts no responsibility for any loss to a user consequent upon a failure to log out correctly at the end of a session, this includes funds from your Charge Account ...updated 5/05/11

Reporting faults at the weekend. If you encounter any urgent PC network problems during the weekend, please notify weekend_faults@brookes.ac.uk. Give specific details, including any error messages. Please note that we will only attend to system/server problems such as multiple users unable to access home directories, applications software, or the internet, but we will not reply to your emails. We can not guarantee that problems will be fixed immediately but we will aim to restore services as soon as possible .
