Brookes eduroam wireless setup for Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.x) and Snow Leopard (10.6.x)
How to join the eduroam@brookes wireless service
Remember: you must first register for eduroam@brookes in order to connect to it.
Note: To use eduroam@brookes you must have a compatible IEEE 802.11b/802.11g wireless hardware, that supports WPA (preferably WPA2), and the appropriate up to date drivers, installed and working. This hardware is usually fitted as standard on Apple laptops (Aluminium G4 and Intel versions) but you must ensure that it is working correctly before proceeding with these instructions.
Refer to the manufacturers instructions to ensure that the wireless device conforms to the necessary specifications.
You will need the following:
- A wireless enabled Apple computer with compatible wireless hardware.
The following instructions are for OS X 10.5.1 or later. Other versions may display different menus and forms but the same information will need to be entered.
Connect to eduroam@brookes
Before attempting to connect for the first time you must ensure that you are within range of a wireless network point (a node) and that you have good signal strength. You can view maps of the Brookes campuses showing signal coverage.
Make sure your wireless card is enabled. Click on the wireless network icon in the panel. |

Connect to the eduroam@brookes network
After you click on "eduroam" in the list of wireless networks you will be prompted for some log on details. You do not need to change any Security or Configuration settings.
- Enter your User Name (this is you normal ID number as shown on your Library card) followed by @brookes.ac.uk along with the password you use to log in to the Brookes PC network.
- If you want your details remembered so that you do not have to enter them again simply tick "Remember password in my keychain".

You may be prompted whether to allow eapolclient to store details in the keychain. If you select Always Allow or Allow your details will be cached so that you will not need to enter them again.

You may be prompted to authenticate the Certificate that eduroam@brookes provides. The certificate should be for eduroam.brookes.ac.uk and titled UTN-USERFirst-Hardware.

You can either:
- Just click Continue to proceed (you may be prompted to accept again the next time you connect to eduroam@brookes).

Click the Show Certificate button and then select 'Always trust "eduroam.brookes.ac.uk"'. This will stop any further prompts to accept the certificate. More fine grained controls are available under the Trust options at the bottom of this window. Click Continue to join eduroam@brookes.
You should now be connected to eduroam@brookes.
