First aid at work

Course bookings will be made by OCSLD.

First Aid courses are, wherever possible, now run centrally from Oxford Brookes.

This is a recognised health and safety qualification for first aiders at work. It has three days of practical sessions and an examination on the final day. It covers you for a three year period to be a qualified first aider at work. After that time you should attend a refresher course (two days) which can also be arranged.

A two day first aid refresher course.

First Aid courses are, wherever possible, now run centrally from Oxford Brookes.

If these refresher dates do not fit in with the expiry of your First Aid certification then please contact Roy Grant.  

Please note that refreshers can be taken up to a month early and up to 28 days after the expiry date.

First Aid Annual Update Courses

This half day workshop is for Oxford Brookes First Aiders.  It is expected that First Aiders will attend an annual update to keep their knowledge up to date.

It is not available as an open session to anyone without the full three day course.

Appointed person first aid at work A one day course that provides basic information to enable someone to provide emergency first aid or to aid a fully qualified first aider. Anyone who is nominated to become an appointed person at work 1 day

COSHH assessment training This course will provide you with the information to be able to undertake COSHH (control of substances hazardous to health) assessments. Anyone working with or managing staff who work with chemicals or cleaning products 2 hours

Fire extinguisher training

This covers the principles of fire, how fire spreads, types of extinguishers and hands-on use of extinguishers on real fires. Everyone 3 hours

Fire marshal training

This course covers the principles of fire, how fire spreads and how to evacuate a building safely Fire marshals 2 hours
Noise awareness training This course will cover the regulations, noise reduction and how to wear and select the correct personal protective equipment. Those who work in potentially noisy environments 2 hours
Portable appliance testing training This course will cover visual inspection of equipment and how to use the portable appliance testing equipment. Those who undertake portable appliance testing 3 hours

Risk assessment training

This course will cover the general principles of how to conduct risk assessments, and can be tailored for individual areas or specific subjects, eg manual handling assessments. Those who undertake risk assessments 2 hours
