First aid provision
There have been some enquiries about first aid provision and locating a first aider in an emergency. The following is an outline of the different ways to access a first aider at Brookes:
To contact a first aider
- Click on First Aiders Directory under Useful Directories in the electronic internal phone directory; this contains a list of all first aiders. The nearest first aider can be identified under Room or School/Department
- Look on green first aid signs located on walls in the surrounding area. These contain the names and numbers of the nearest first aiders
- Telephone the university switchboard by dialing 0 on any internal phone
Please note the Medical Centre staff are unable to attend first aid calls outside the medical centre. It is designed as a GP Surgery and does not have the resources to carry out this duty. If there is any doubt about the seriousness of an injury or condition, an ambulance should be called without delay.
More details are available in the Health and Safety Policy Handbook, OBUHSN-10 held in each School/Directorate and on this web site.
There are clearly some problems with accessing rapid response for a first aid incident and the whole system of first aid provision and how to contact first aiders is currently under review by the Health and Safety Committee. It is hoped that a more effective way of accessing help when needed can be developed.
Any suggestions on how to improve the system or queries on the above can be directed to Christie Rainbird on ext. 5772 or by email.
