Brookes Teaching Fellowships Scheme
Teaching Fellowships are an important element of the University’s commitment “to encourage and reward teaching excellence and establish teaching and course delivery based on evidence of effective practice”.
Since 2003, there have been more than 50 awards made to reward excellence in teaching and learning. These awards have been made to outstanding individuals to support their work in enhancing the Brookes student learning experience.
This year, there are two categories of Teaching Fellowship:
- for learning support staff
- for academic staff
and one category of Associate Fellowship
- for those with less than six years’ experience in either of the Teaching Fellowship categories.
The Scheme invites applications each year from staff in academic and learning support roles alike.
The Application Process for 2012-14 involves submitting a claim for excellence and a project proposal. An internal panel, including existing Teaching Fellows, considers applications and the selection process normally involves an interview. The decision is made on the basis of proven excellence in teaching and/or learning support as well as the quality of the proposed project and its contribution to the Strategy for Enhancing the Student Experience. Successful applicants receive a stipend of £1,500 per year for two years, and £3,500 each year to fund their project.
Fellowship holders receive funding for their projects for two years, and retain the award title. Fellows are also expected to disseminate the outcomes of their projects widely, both within the University and beyond. Brookes Teaching Fellows and Associate Fellows become members of the Minerva Forum, which is a network that supports and promotes further innovation, research and development in teaching and learning. Fellows will be encouraged to achieve accredited recognition of their leadership in teaching and learning by the end of their funded project. At this point, Associate Fellows can apply to become Brookes Teaching Fellows.
The Fellowships have enabled pedagogic development on a range of successful projects listed under the Fellowships pages.
