Developing Students' Transferable Skills
This manual provides practical advice to help lecturers in developing communication skills, teamwork, problem solving and other transferable skills. It identifies the range of transferable skills students may need to acquire and provides tools to review existing course provision and students' existing levels of skill. It explains the principles of how skills are learnt and provides a checklist for reviewing skill development provision. The manual is designed around four elements of skill development: training, demand, monitoring and assessment. In separate chapters it explains how to run skill training exercises, how to build demands for transferable skills into learning processes within courses, how to monitor the development of students' skills and how to assess skills. The final chapter illustrates the use of profiling to provide an overview of the development of students' transferable skills. Each chapter contains concrete examples illustrating best practice.
