Valerie Clifford
Val joined OCSLD in March 2006 and as Deputy Head she has responsibility for the day-to-day management of the centre. Val is also course leader for the Postgraduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and teaches the module on postgraduate research supervision.
Val came to Brookes from being Head of the Academic Development Unit at Monash University in Australia where she also worked at the Malaysian and South African campuses. Before that she was Director of the Centre for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji. Other teaching and research experiences in Australia, New Zealand and Belize have included six years as a Research Fellow in the University of Otago Medical School researching women’s health, which is the subject of her PhD. Her international experiences have led to her current research interests in internationalisation of the curriculum, feminist pedagogy and reflective practice in multi-cultural environments.
