Master of Arts in Education

Could it be for you?

  • Are you interested in researching your teaching?
  • Are you interested in being more innovative in your teaching?
  • Are you interested in knowing more about research supervision?

The MA in Education is designed as a pathway to develop pedagogical research. It can be taken part-time over two years and builds on the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (PCTHE). There is also a route for anyone who is now teaching but who has not completed the PCTHE or has joined Brookes with qualifications in teaching from other institutions.

What does the MA in Education require?

This will depend on where you start.

  • If you have completed the 60 credits of the PCTHE you will need to complete a further 120 credits.
  • If you do not have the PCTHE you will need to follow the APEL/APL route and then complete 120 credits.

What modules are involved?

Three are compulsory:

  • Educational Research 20 credits P70001
  • Reflective Professional Development 20 credits P70003
  • Dissertation 60 credits P70002

You can see more details of the modules.

The remaining 20 credits can be made up from a variety of optional taught modules. Two modules that particularly focus on higher education teaching and are offered by OCSLD are:

These two modules can also be taken as ‘stand alone’ modules without registering for the MA in Education. The fees for these two modules are waived for Oxford Brookes staff.
