A day of events to celebrate the start of construction work on the new library and teaching building will begin at 11am on Tuesday 5 April.
The date marks 57 years since Lord Nuffield laid the original foundation stone of the Darcy engineering block for the School of Technology, Art and Commerce, establishing a new campus in Headington.
Join us for one of the below activities to help mark this exciting step in creating an even better place to be.

Find out more
Stop in Gipsy Lane Main Reception for free tea and coffee plus try out some of the proposed pooled teaching furniture and speak to one of the Space to Think team.
11:00am – 1:00pm
Bird’s Eye View
See the construction site from a new elevated viewing platform, near the entrance to the Abercrombie Building.
12:00pm – 12.45pm
Lunchtime lecture*
Grab a free sandwich in the Fuller Lecture Theatre (FH101) for an informal talk by Design Engine, the new building’s architects.
12:00pm – 1.40pm
‘Behind the hoarding’ tours*
Sign up for a site tour led by building contractor Laing O’Rourke at Gipsy Lane Main Reception. Numbers will be very limited and registration opens from 9.30am on the day.
