Over recent years Wheatley Campus has seen some very exciting developments.
Both the schools of Business and Technology now have new purpose-built facilities to help enhance the experience of students and staff on the campus.
The university-wide masterplan looks to continue this progress with purpose-built accommodation for students to live on the campus and for more accessible and attractive learning environments to support both group and individual study.
Update - January 2010
Since the masterplan for Wheatley was first discussed in 2007, the university has engaged a great deal with the planning authority and developments within South Oxfordshire District Council have given us the opportunity to explore the potential of the site.
The focus for redevelopment has been at Gipsy Lane over the last two years and this has helped provide time for our discussions with the district council. Whilst there won’t be any major redevelopment at Wheatley until after the work at Headington is complete, we are currently finalising plans to provide a new access route more directly from the A40, reducing the number of journeys through the village.
Any first phase of development would need to see the demolition of the large tower block, which in turn would require a new library, lecture theatres and a new refectory to be built in advance. This would be another major project for the university and so there will be a need to review the plans for Wheatley once the work at Headington is complete.
We will be holding an exhibition in February 2010 to present the current principles of a redevelopment and the work carried out since the initial plan for the campus and the progress made with the District Council.
