Campus masterplan
Since 2007 the University has consulted with staff, students and the local community to create a vision for Wheatley’s future, to continue the redevelopment which has already led to successful projects at the campus.
Our long term aspirations include high-quality student accommodation, more efficient and attractive learning environments in synch with the world of modern education and improvements to the accessibility and landscape of the whole campus.
At an exhibition in December 2010, we outlined several long-term proposals for Wheatley’s development over the next 30 years or more.
- A new road will be developed from the west of the campus, improving access into the site and reducing the level of traffic passing through the village
- An application for planning permission for the new access road was submitted in August 2011
- The heart of the campus will be pedestrianised, with a landscaped green corridor for cyclists and pedestrians spanning the length of the site
- A new library, lecture theatres and replacement refectory will be built in advance of the demolition of the redundant residential tower block
- Provisions are made to enhance the quality and availability of existing university conference and professional training space
- At the east of the campus, an area has been identified for the construction of purpose-built ensuite student accommodation
Each proposal will be a major project for the University, and plans for the future campus layout and construction of new and replacement buildings will need to be reviewed once the work at Gipsy Lane is complete.
