General usage policy

The university is keen to encourage its staff to actively engage in the use of social networking to promote and communicate on behalf of Oxford Brookes.

Any member of staff or department wishing to represent the university officially through social media must comply with the following requirements:

  • As an official voice of the university you must act responsibly when posting, commenting and sharing of content online.
  • Use of the Oxford Brookes Brand within social networks must comply with the corporate branding guidelines
  • When wishing to use the names ‘Oxford Brookes University’, ‘Oxford Brookes’ or ‘Brookes’ in the name of a social space, please inform the Social and Digital Media Manager at socialmedia@brookes.ac.uk so it can be added to the official pages list.
  • Any posts, comments or questions from users need to be acknowledged and dealt with in a timely manner.
  • When publishing and sharing content you must seek the explicit permission of the content originator wherever possible.
  • You must not share any information, comments or otherwise that may be deemed as litigious.
  • All uses of social media must follow the same ethical standards that Oxford Brookes employees must otherwise follow.
