The Samaritans

The Samaritans is a UK charity which exists to provide confidential emotional support to anyone who is suicidal or despairing. This site provides more information about the history and work of the Samaritans, as well as telephone and email contact details.

Nightline

Nightline is a listening, support and information service run by students for students. The Oxford branch can be contacted by telephone on Oxford 270270 or you can visit them at 16 Wellington Square. They operate from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. during Oxford University term times and a week either side - see the web site for dates. You can ring about problems, or because you need a chat. They also have local information such as night bus times and contact details for clinics.

Muslim Youth Helpline

The Muslim Youth Helpline (MYH) is a registered charity that provides faith and culturally sensitive support services to Muslim youth in the UK. Their main services are a free and confidential Helpline service run by young Muslim volunteers, and an online support service called muslimyouth.net.

Beat Eating Disorders is a national charity offering help, support and information to people whose lives are affected by eating disorders, including, anorexia, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating. This site includes information about eating disorders, help lines and other support facilities, news items, and message boards.

British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy is the UK's major organisation of counsellors, with over 16,000 members. This site explains more about the basic principles of counselling and the role of BACP.

Student Run Self Help group for those with Eating Disorders (SRSH)

Group sessions for students with eating disorders to talk about their feelings with other students who suffer from, or are in recovery from, eating disorders. Groups run by SRSH are held both at Oxford Brookes University and Oxford University. Email if you have any questions, to find out when the groups meet, or for more information. Leaflet avaialable.
