Self help

Self help:   There are lots of resources designed to help you manage your feelings and thoughts better.

  • The Counselling Service publishes a series of leaflets on various problems and experiences.
  • You can buy booklets on a range of psychological problems, or buy a CD on relaxation. A list of these materials is available.
  • There are many web sites which provide good information, advice and tips.
  • Try out our relaxation exercises.
  • The Counseling Service organises a bibliotherapy system, in which a recommended booklist is provided.
  • Visit a website which links to self-help guides at Universities across the country: Guide to Problems and Solutions.
  • You can try a self-help course to reduce anxiety, stress, low mood or other problems: Living Life to the Full.
  • Mood Gym teaches you the skills of challenging your thinking, which can help with depression. It is a free web-based programme.
