Infectious diseases
Information and advice on the common infectious diseases that may affect students.
Nationally all new students have been advised to seek MMR (3 in 1 measles, mumps and rubella) vaccination prior to arriving at their university. Therefore, all new students to Oxford Brookes are sent letters advising that they go to their local (home) GP and request MMR prior to arriving at Oxford Brookes.
However, if you have been unable to receive your MMR immunisation before arriving here at Oxford Brookes, please let the nurses know during your medical registration. This takes place as part of enrolment. They will be able to advise you.
Students living in Wheatley or Harcourt Hill campuses can receive MMR from the surgeries which are local to those campuses (Morland House and Jericho and West Oxford respectively). please make an appointment once registered.
There are some simple precautions in terms of personal hygiene that all of us can employ to help prevent the spread of many of the viral illnesses:
- Coughs and sneezes DO spread diseases so please use handkerchiefs or tissues to cough or sneeze into and then dispose of them hygienically
- Wash your cups and crockery in hot soapy water after use to avoid the accidental sharing of viruses through this transmission route
