After Brookes: Arriving Home

When you first arrive home, you will probably be happy to see your friends and family again to speak your own language, eat your own food and relax in your old surroundings.

But many students have found that they experience some 'reverse culture shock' after they have been at home for short time. This can be similar to the 'culture shock' you experienced, when you first came to the UK and may mean you feel quite unsettled and anxious for a short time. It is a normal reaction to adjusting to a new situation. You will be affected by any changes, amongst your family and friends and different economic and political conditions. You may have got used to behaving and dressing in ways that are not accepted in you home country.

You can see some tips on preparing for readjusting to life at home, in the UKCISA information sheets International students: preparing to return home and International students and culture shock.
