If you are a national of any of the countries listed here, the UKBA consider your application to be 'low risk'. This means you can choose not to send your finance documents and qualifications. However after they receive your application the UKBA may still contact you and ask for them. If you cannot then provide them in time your application will be refused. For details see from page 2 paragraph 11 of the UKBA Policy Guidance.

You will need a Confirmation of Acceptance to Study, known as a CAS.

Where you need to go to request your CAS will depend on which course you are studying:

  • Students starting a new course Undergraduates – Admissions Office, Gipsy Lane Site
  • Postgraduate taught (Masters) –Course Administrator

You will need to print this email and use it to help you to complete your Tier 4 application form.

Please note that it will take at least 5 working days to produce a CAS

You will need to send originals of all educational documents/certificates listed on your CAS used to assess your ability to study. Offical translations will also be needed if they are not in English.

*If you can show with official receipts from the Finance Office that you have paid University halls fees, then a maximum of £1000 can be deducted from the total maintenance amounts.

Your documents must meet the requirements detailed in the UKBA Policy Guidance from page 30, paragraph 181. Please read these very carefully as your visa will be refused if you do not meet the requirements.

You will need to check that your bank is not on the UKBA lists of unacceptable financial institutions for some countries.

If you are applying using a parent's bank account you will need their bank statement or letter and your original birth certificate and a letter signed by your parent. For details see from page 33, paragraph 189 of the UKBA Policy Guidance. Your parent will also need to sign and post to you Section N of the application form.

If you would like an adviser to have a look through your completed form and documents, go to our contact us page to check when advisers are available. Try to come 6 to 8 weeks before your visa expires

Can I make an appointment with the UKBA instead of posting my application?

If you have decided to go to the Home Office in person instead of posting your application:

  • Book an appointment online or by phone 0870 606 7766 for before your visa ends
  • What happens when you go
  • How to get there:
    Going to Croydon

Lunar House, 40 Wellesley Road, Croydon  CR9 2BY
Take a coach from Oxford to Victoria in London.   Trains go regularly from Victoria Station to East Croydon.  It takes about 3 hours to go from Oxford to Croydon. From East Croydon Station, turn right along George Street and turn right into Wellesley Road.  After walking for 5 to 10 minutes, Lunar House is on the right.
    Going to Birmingham
Dominion Court, 41 Station Road, Solihull, Birmingham, B91 3RT. You can go by train from Oxford to Solihull.

Guidance Notes

Download and read the UKBA Help Text and Policy Guidance.

You must read these documents very carefully. If you do not UKBA are likely to refuse your application without giving you a chance to correct any mistakes on the form or send in any further documents.

We also recommend that you read the UKCISA Information Sheet and the UKBA Adult Students and Applying web pages.

What happens next?

  • The UKBA will send a confirmation letter about a week after receiving your application. This letter will go to Brookes if we sent your application for you.
You can check if the UKBA received your application by putting your Special Delivery number into the Royal Mail tracking service
  • About week after this the UKBA will send to you a letter asking you to have your biometrics taken (photo and finger prints). You will usually be able to do this at the Post Office in Oxford on St Aldates.
  • After this has happened your application will hopefully be decided in about 4 weeks.
  • Your passport and original documents will be returned to you by recorded delivery by the Royal Mail. If you are not in to sign for them they will leave you a card that explains how to arrange to collect your post.
  • Your Biometrics Residence Pernit (visa card) will be sent separately by courier and should arrive around the same time.
  • If you need to register with the police you will need to update your details with them
  • When you have received your new visa you need to take it to the Academic Managment Office, Gipsy Lane, for them to scan.
