I am a current British student and would like to become a Global Buddy

APPLICATION DEADLINE - FRIDAY 29TH JUNE 2012

Role of a buddy

The first few months at University can be an exciting but nervous time and it can take time for new students to adjust to their environment.  There are many issues that could arise, below are a few examples:

  • New styles of teaching and not understanding how the system at Oxford Brookes works
  • Feeling homesick
  • Unused to the new culture and how to act
  • Getting used to the different campuses and where facilities are based

Benefits you will gain from being a Buddy

Prospective employers are asking applicants to not only have qualifications but to use extra curricular activities as evidence of adaptable skills that can be used for a career. This means that they would be interested in your participation as a mentor and it will be a valuable asset to include on your CV. Below are some of the other rewards that can be gained as a mentor:

  • You will develop interpersonal skills
  • A rewarding and worthwhile volunteering experience
  • Certificate of participation on completion
  • Meet new people and make friends from around the world at the social events, while being part of a fun & supportive team
  • Learn and understand different cultures
