Applying for a student visitor visa

A student visitor visa is different to a Tier 4 General student visa as it allows you to study part-time. You may also want to apply for this visa if you are studying a short course or only need to come to the UK occasionally for a distance learning course.

Check carefully the restricitions of a student visitor visa. See step 6 below.

7 Steps for applying for your student visitor visa

1
Read the following news pages for the latest visa news that may affect your application:

  • ISAS News
  • UK Visas news
  • UKCISA News
  • UKBA news

2
Check where you need to apply for your visa and whether you can apply online.

If you are a visa national or apply for the Extended Student Visitor visa you must apply for your visa before you travel.

If you are not applying for an Extended Student Visitor visa and are not a visa national you can get your visa on arrival in the UK. For details see our news item.

3
Read the UKBA pages for Student Visitors
You must read these pages very carefully. If you do not UKBA are likely to refuse your application without giving you a chance to correct any mistakes on the form or send in any further documents.

Also check carefully that your photograph meets the UKBA photo guidance.

There is also helpful guidance available from UKCISA

4
If you are not applying online then download and print the VAF1D - Student visitor form.

5
Complete the form using the ISAS guides below:
