Aims and objectives

We aim to provide a happy, secure, safe and stimulating environment for children, while encouraging them to develop socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. We promote independence and a caring and sympathetic attitude to life in general.

The children at the nursery choose which activity they wish to be involved in. This helps them develop initiative, be selective and make decisions. Children who are less motivated or find it difficult to concentrate are encouraged by staff to choose and work constructively.

The nursery is a purpose-built building located on the Clive Booth Hall site, accessible by vehicle from John Garne Way. The nursery provides childcare for students and staff of Oxford Brookes University. It can accommodate 54 children between the ages of 4 months and 5 years, and is divided into three separate rooms for children in three different age groups:

  • 4 months - 2 years (12 places)
  • 2 years - 5 years (42 places)

The nursery has a fully equipped kitchen and office accommodation. There are also two large outdoor play areas, which are used solely by the nursery children under close supervision.

The nursery has an Equal Opportunities Policy, which states that no potential or actual nursery user, whether child or adult, will receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of ethnic origin, colour, gender, disability, marital status or sexual orientation.
