DID YOU KNOW?
The university has the power to impose the following penalties, among others, on those students who behave poorly:
- A formal apology
- A fine
- A Personal Conduct Order
- Compensation
- Community service
- Eviction from university accommodation
- Exclusion or expulsion from the university.
Thousands of Brookes students live in the community in and around Oxford.
The majority of these enjoy a positive relationship with the residents around them – but the actions of a few students are threatening to ruin this for everyone. Late-night noise and other alcohol-related incidents are the things that we most often hear about from local residents, and also raises concern about the safety and health of our students.
As a city-based university, it is hugely important to all of us that we have good relationships with the local community. This builds on Brookes’ reputation, which not only improves your student experience, but also raises the value of your degree both now and in the future.
Working with the Students' Union
The university has a number of penalties it can impose on students for poor behaviour. These can vary from written warnings and fines to being expelled. Until now these have not been widely known, and so the university is working in collaboration with the Students’ Union to find out from you, the students, what you think about the use and variety of penalties for bad behaviour.
It is hugely important that we get responses from as many students as possible to help us build up a better picture of what students know about these penalties, so please spread the word and encourage your friends and housemates to respond.
