Undergraduate Survey 2010

The 2010 Oxford Brookes online Student Satisfaction survey for undergraduates starts on Monday 22 March. (A postgraduate survey will be sent out in May.) Your views will help the university make decisions on how to improve the student experience.

How your views will help

As a result of concerns raised in previous surveys, the university has focused on developing and improving approaches to assessment and feedback; has introduced new posts of Student Support Co-ordinators in each school and continues to seek student opinion on the university’s physical estate (buildings and grounds) as part of campus redevelopment.

The survey also helps the university to monitor trends in opinion over time to ensure that any changes in the standards of support and services that it provides are spotted early and corrective action taken.

What do our students think about studying at Brookes?

In our 2009 Student Satisfaction Survey, eight out of ten students were happy with the way their subject knowledge was developing with a similar proportion feeling that their lecturers were good at explaining things, which suggests that students feel they are receiving a good quality education.

Indeed, nine out of ten Oxford Brookes students said they would recommend the university to prospective students.

What students like about Brookes

When students were asked to look back on their student experience and highlight any particular positive aspects, the most positive things about life at Oxford Brookes were the quality of the lecturers and staff, the quality of the courses and the friendliness of staff and fellow students.

What students want to see improved

When asked about whether there were any particular negative aspects to studying at Oxford Brookes, amongst the things mentioned by students were transport and parking issues, assessment and feedback processes (including the quality and timeliness of feedback) and the appearance of the campuses.

Methodology

The survey was undertaken by the Strategic and Business Planning Office (SBPO) within the Directorate of Corporate Affairs. A link to the on-line questionnaire was sent to all Oxford Brookes students via e-mail in March 2009 (excluding final year undergraduates who take part in the National Student Survey).

By the closing date 980 students had taken part representing 8% of the eligible student body.
