About the School of Technology

The School of Technology is a lively and friendly place, which prides itself on the quality of its academic staff, and the support it provides for students. The School has good links with industry, and its research groups enjoy an international reputation.

Research in the School of Technology is focused on three areas: computing and information technology, electronic and mechanical engineering and mathematical sciences.

Facilities

A brand-new building, built in 2006, contains dedicated areas for postgraduate students. As well as having 24-hour access to the University’s network of PCs, the School has its own suites of modern purpose-built computing laboratories and a wide variety of specialist computer software.

Research community

Our lively research community brings together postgraduates from all over the world. We have an international reputation for applied research and industrial collaboration which will enable you to study and research with staff whose expertise is respected worldwide. External collaborations mean that supervisory teams may include individuals working in industry.

We have extensive national and international academic links and a range of collaborative applied projects with industry, hospitals and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, as well as with over 20 universities in the UK, Germany, France and Austria.

Proposals for new collaborative research projects are welcome, particularly from applicants in full-time employment who wish to obtain a higher degree on a part-time basis.

Funding

Funding for research is attracted from industry and grant awarding bodies including: British Telecom; Hewlett-Packard; Nortel; and the EU. A Wellcome Fellowship and a BT Fellowship have also been granted. For further information on funding see our student finance pages.
