Arlene Wellman, studied for an MSc in Clinical Health Care Practice, now titled Advanced Practice (Clinical)
Oxford Brookes offered me the course I wanted to do in order to become a Nurse Consultant. I needed advanced assessment and training skills.
My study has prepared me for my career. It was daunting to begin with because you’re out of your comfort zone and I hadn’t studied at master’s level before. Now I think it has made so much impact on how I’m able to work in management. If I hadn’t done it I wouldn’t be where I am now and I certainly wouldn’t be in this kind of post.
There’s also such a broad mix of people learning with you, from different countries, all over the world. We had students from countries in Europe, such as Spain and Italy, and we also had students who were going back to Nigeria to work. I kind of like that, you get all kinds of different perspectives.
