As well as work-based experience, there are exciting opportunities within our own research groups. We are home to the UK’s first research centre dedicated to functional foods, along with the Human Performance Unit and the Clinical Exercise and Rehabilitation (CLEAR) Unit. From testing the glycaemic index of foods for Tesco to optimising the performance of elite athletes or improving the lives of patients with neurological conditions through exercise rehabilitation, the department is involved at the cutting edge of scientific research. Opportunities for multidisciplinary research are available in collaboration with our Departments of Psychology, and of Social Work and Public Health, as well as other research institutes.
Fully integrating our research into teaching enables students to get involved with research teams at every level, from inception of new research ideas to the evaluation of the delivery of subsequently developed interventions. Students gain direct experience of working alongside highly-qualified staff from a range of professional backgrounds and disciplines.
Opportunities to develop research and technical skills are provided as part of comprehensive training support, and you will learn a range of methodological approaches including qualitative research, systematic reviews, meta- analysis and clinical trials. We offer excellent facilities including state-of- the-art clinical simulation and professional skills development suites and our British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) accredited laboratory. Rosie Hale, studying for an MSc in Contemporary Occupational Therapy
I moved to Oxford two years ago and I really like it here. I was thinking about doing a master's full-time somewhere, but realised I couldn't afford it and I liked my job too much.
I think Oxford Brookes is currently the only university offering distance learning Contemporary Occupational Therapy. So I spoke to the course tutors who were really excited about it and my employer really supported me, so I just applied.
I’m working full-time and doing distance learning, so it’s all online. When I enrolled we got the opportunity to come and meet the tutors. I didn’t have time, so we stayed in touch via the online learning portal and email and they were always really quick to respond. It’s been really helpful because everyone has been able to post their own experiences and I’ve learnt a lot.
