Ministry - 2012 entry

Foundation Degree Fd(A)

Overview

This course is run by the Department of History, Philosophy and Religion

Faith communities are increasingly seeking to equip their workers with appropriate skills and knowledge to enable them to be more effective ministers and leaders with their communities. The Department of History, Philosophy and Religion at Oxford Brookes University works with a number of faith-based communities to support their training for ministry and leadership.

This foundation degree in Ministry is offered through our partners, who are currently: the Diocese of Oxford, Ripon College, Cuddesdon, the Diocese of Salisbury  and the Diocese of Guildford. Admission to the course is through our partners who should be contacted directly in the first instance.

The course is recognised by the Ministry Division of the Church of England as an appropriate vehicle of training and formation in each of our partner institutions.

Teaching, learning and assessment

The foundation degree in Ministry is undertaken through innovative and flexible methods of portfolio-based learning and assessment. Portfolio-based learning enables students to build up a collection of coursework, and is a way of studying designed to fit with your ministry and match your learning, professional and faith development needs.

Teaching is delivered at partner colleges, and not at Oxford Brookes, although you will still be able to access all the university's facilities.

Course content

The foundation degree in Ministry is designed to support the training and formation programmes offered by our partners for both lay and ordained ministry. It offers a practice-based approach to the study of ministry and the theology of ministry.

Most students on the course will be undertaking their studies in order to receive appropriate training to exercise a particular ministry in their church or faith community. The precise pathway you undertake through the course will be agreed in consultation with the partner institution with which you are associated.

Study is by portfolio and may be based with our partners in your place of work and ministry. Students who successfully complete the foundation degree in Ministry are eligible to progress to complete an Oxford Brookes BA (Hons) degree in Religion and Theology. A master's degree in Ministry is also available, through the Diocese of Oxford and Ripon College only.
