  • the Oxford location with its strong economy and unrivalled learning resources.

Why our teaching is so strong

Oxford Brookes is home to some of the UK's best university teaching - in the past two years we have received five sought-after national teaching fellowships. In 2011, three Brookes academics were chosen by the Higher Education Academy to become national leaders for learning and teaching.

You will be taught by people who are at the forefront of their subjects and use their significant expertise in industry and business to offer you useful insights into the world of work as well as a thorough academic grounding.

Our great teaching is rooted in internationally recognised research and has resulted in significant developments across a range of important areas. To find out more about research at Oxford Brookes visit our research pages

Work Placements

Doing a real job, applying your knowledge and meeting new people make work placements rewarding, fun and give you a realistic perspective on career options.

Many of our courses include work placements and we’ll support you to find the right one. Our location in Oxford is at the heart of the UK’s most thriving economic region, and few other places can rival the city's wealth of placement opportunities.

Building your skills

At Oxford Brookes, we have worked hard to create further opportunities for our students to develop practical, hands-on skills.

To mention just a few:

  • our award-winning Brookes Restaurant, which is open to the public, gives hospitality students the chance to build their skills front of house and behind the scenes
  • media and communications, and sound technology students can develop their journalistic and technical skills in a fully equipped TV studio, home to the award-winning Brookes TV
  • built environment projects, such as regenerating a community area in North Oxford, enable students to apply their learning to real-life case studies
  • two accredited university-based osteopathy clinics give student osteopaths the chance to practise under supervision on real-life patients
  • our award-winning pro bono scheme gives law students valuable workplace experience, such as working with asylum seekers.

Study abroad and international exchange

Studying abroad, or coming to Brookes on exchange from outside the UK, is a great way of boosting your skills.

Some of the reasons to study abroad are to

  • increase your employability within an international market, improve your language skills, and gain credits which will count towards your degree.
  • Funding is available for exchange studies in Europe through the Erasmus programme, and also for some international programmes. Most exchanges take place during the second year of your degree, so you can still graduate with your friends, but with a much more impressive CV.
  • Brookes' European work placement programme (also via Erasmus) gives you the opportunity to work abroad as part of your studies. You can apply to go to any EU countries and could get a grant to help with your travel and accommodation costs.

For further details see our international pages on studying abroad.
