Run by students for students, the Students’ Union is at the heart of student life.
We’re home to over 80 societies as well as organising a fantastic Freshers’ Week when you arrive. We’re also here to support and represent you.
The Students' Voice
Every year students elect Student Officers, who ensure that students’ needs are taken into account in decisions around the running of the SU, or university.
All Brookes students are automatically made members of the SU. Any SU member can stand for election, and helping to run the SU is a great opportunity to make a difference to your fellow students’ lives, as well as being a valuable asset on your CV. You can also have your say by attending SU meetings, sitting on the Student Council or becoming a student representative.
Get involved
University is the ideal time to try out something new or to pursue existing interests and to meet up with a whole heap of people who share your interests. There are more than 80 societies at Oxford Brookes, but if there isn’t one that caters for your tastes, it’s very simple to set one up.

Help is at hand
The SU Advice Centre (SUAC) can provide you with free advice and information on financial, housing, legal and welfare issues.
We also work with the University to support a system of student reps who represent students on their course.
We run other services, too, like the Safety Bus, which rounds off a great night out.

Freshers' week
Our fun and action-filled Freshers’ Week is designed to give all new students a warm welcome, helping you to settle in and find your feet.
The Freshers’ Fair is one of the week’s highlights. It gives you the chance to find out about:
- our many clubs and societies,
- the SU’s activities
- student services
- what the city of Oxford has to offer.
Popular past events have included an open-air cinema night and society 'taster' sessions, from climbing to creative writing.
