Welcome to the Food Video LibraryGaining student access to factories is increasingly difficult as companies cut-back on non-commercial activities, yet applied subjects such as Food Science require students to gain a feel for the scale of industrial processes and the relationship between different unit operations. This sense of scale is also pertinent in schools, where food technology is available at A level and from where the next generation of food scientists and technologists will come. Resulting from the HEFCE Food Science subject review, a project was proposed to expand and disseminate an Audio Visual Aid Library of Food Processing Operations. The hope was that it would enhance curriculum design, content and organisation of food science and food technology courses as well as helping students make informed career choices about the food industry, thus contributing to student support and guidance. We recognise that many food companies and equipment manufacturers have existing video footage intended to advertise their products and services. We hope to make use of this material, to collate it and edit it into coherent teaching videos which illustrate the scale and size of industrial food processing operations. |
