Food Video Library

The aims of the project is to expand and disseminate a library of Audio Visual Aids (AVAs) with accompanying handbooks that will acquaint students' and teachers/lecturers with the following:

  1. Unit operation AVAs showing the variety of equipment and the suitability of each to particular raw materials. These AVAs will illustrate industrial equipment as well as introducing students to the process parameters that affect the quality of finished products. For example an AVA might focus on size reduction operations, examining a variety of mills, their mode of action, reduction ratio, and suitable food materials. These AVAs are directed at HE students.
  2. Manufacturing process AVAs that focus on particular products, investigating transformation from raw materials. Such AVAs will select appropriate unit operations for that material, broadly examining the parameters which affect it and link it to subsequent unit operations. These AVAs will include laboratory testing of raw materials and products. An example of such processes would be the production of white flour from wheat. These AVAs are directed at both HE and secondary school students.
  3. Career guidance packs comprising an AVA and a handbook - the purpose being to expose students/pupils to areas of industrial food production as well as illustrating the activities of the different job functions within the food industry. One AVA will be directed at the HE sector and one at secondary schools.
