They’ve caused quite a stir on the Oxford scene since forming in 2011, and Traps, who’s members all studied at Brookes, bring their grungy guitars, soulful vocals and grinding energy to the Ashmolean on March 14 where they’ll take no prisoners with a sound that’s been described as epic.
Tell us who you are then
Alexis Goodyear (vocals), Roger Blake (guitar), Tim Gardiner (bass) and Peter Canning (drums)
Describe your style and musical influences
We’re all into different genres, but the result is a little bit Queens of the Stone Age, a little bit Radiohead and a little bit PJ Harvey.
Sounds pretty excellent. Who are your musical heroes?
We love anyone with passion in their performance. Karen O has an astonishing stage presence and Biffy Clyro seem to play each gig like it’s their last.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever played?
Truck festival 2013 takes some beating: amazing atmosphere, great weather and cider for breakfast.
…and the worst?
We felt pretty bad after a battle of the bands heat that we won by having our friends drink their way to our victory (each drink was worth a vote!)
What’s your musical ambition?
lay the Truck festival main stage. They’re still to announce all the main stage acts for 2014 so fingers crossed!
